The Write-In Candidate

Herbert Hoover, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Richard Nixon all won presidential primaries as write-in candidates. Throughout the course of our democracy, many candidates have used the write-in option to defy the status quo and win public office, from local city councils all the way up to the President of the United States.

The two-party system has stifled the political initiative and ambition of the ordinary citizen at the cost of a more efficient and ideologically diverse Republic. I refuse to accept the notion that ordinary citizens must “fall in line” and pick up a party banner in order to win public office. I am neither a Democrat, nor a Republican. I hold conservative ideals as well as liberal ideals. I do not fall into any one political “bucket.” For this reason, I am running as an independent write-in candidate.

We don’t have to relegate ourselves to the “lesser evil” of two choices. This November, make your own choice, write your own future, and write-in KEVIN D. RYAN for the office of Governor of Illinois.
